Why AI Is Necessary for the Future of Anime

Anime is experiencing one of the most important moments in its history.

Global demand has never been stronger. The cultural influence of anime has never been wider. The ambition of the medium has never been higher.

And yet, the production system behind anime is under enormous pressure.

Studios are being asked to produce more work, at higher quality, on tighter schedules, with teams that are already stretched beyond what is sustainable. Animators carry an impossible amount of the burden. Production committees and studios face difficult economics. Schedules become compressed. Budgets rarely reflect the true labor required. The result is a system where extraordinary art is often created under conditions that should not be normal.

This is the contradiction at the center of anime today: the world wants more anime than ever, but the way anime is made is reaching a breaking point.

AI is not a magic solution to this problem. Used poorly, it could make things worse. It could become another way to squeeze artists, lower standards, or flood the world with empty content.
