Behind the Curtain: How AI Is Already Transforming Anime Production in Japan

Join Kamikai's hosted special presentation and live demo session with Coco Nitta of Kamikai and Taiki Sakurai, former Chief Anime Producer at Netflix and founder/president of Salamander Pictures.

Special presentation · Hosted by Kamikai

World premiere tech demo:

  • Thursday 25 June 2026 · 17:30-18:30
  • Salle de l'Europe, étage 1 · Impérial Palace · Mifa
  • Duration 1 h · English version
  • Open to students and Mifa badgeholders by reservation

Coco Nitta and Taiki Sakurai, former Chief Anime Producer at Netflix and founder/president of Salamander Pictures, share a behind-the-scenes look at how AI-assisted workflows are already being used inside real Japanese anime studio pipelines.

The session will showcase an ongoing production collaboration with Taiki Sakurai titled Tool Spirits - Tsukumogami. The project is a production case study demonstrating how veteran anime creators are combining traditional craft with Kamikai's hybrid animation pipeline.

The team will share how this next-generation workflow empowers professional artists rather than replacing them, enhancing the traditional 2D animation process with greater control, faster iteration, more room for creative exploration, and a more direct path from artistic vision to finished work.

The presentation will also touch on Kamikai's partnership model: co-developing AI tools and production technology with companies around real pipeline needs.

About Kamikai

The professional workflow layer for AI-assisted anime production.

Kamikai builds precision-controlled AI animation tools for professional 2D production, designed for repeatability, human override, fidelity, and real studio pipeline integration, not generic generative output.

After nearly three years working quietly with leading Japanese anime studios, Kamikai is helping prove that AI can shorten the path from creative vision to finished animation while keeping artists at the center.

Our goal is not to replace professional artists, but to supercharge the traditional animation pipeline: giving teams more leverage while preserving creative authorship, craft judgment, and human control.

For enterprise partners, Kamikai also offers AI animation pipeline consulting and forward-deployed production support, helping studios design, test, and operationalize AI-assisted workflows around real creative and production constraints.

Kamikai is actively developing AI animation technology and tools in partnership with industry leaders such as Square Enix, grounding the work in real production needs.
